ELIZABETH MCKINNIE

Elizabeth “Liz” Woods McKinnie was the 5th of 12 children born to the late Pete and Mildred Woods of Bolivar, Tennessee.

Her funeral service was held on Saturday March 11, 2017 at 1:00 noon at Greater Springfield MBC with Pastor Robert Parham in charge.  Burial was in the Bolivar Community Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com in charge of the professional service.

Liz grew up in a happy and loving family with both her parents and siblings. Her parents instilled a strong work ethic. She was brought up in a home that loved the Lord and had strong religious values.

While in high school, Liz met and later married Jeff Edward McKinnie, Jr. of Bolivar, Tennessee. To this union two daughters were born: Julie Diane Lake Braswell and Audrey McKinnie. Liz and Jeff remained married for over 50 years until Jeff’s passing in 2007. In high school Liz participated in basketball and sewing.

Liz and her husband joined Greater Springfield Missionary Baptist Church during her early years where she remained a dedicated servant until her illness. Her various roles serving in the church included being a member of the mother board and the deacon and trustee wives auxiliary, singing in the choir, and reading church announcements.

She received her bachelor’s degree in education and was a devoted teacher in the Hardeman County, Tennessee school system where she taught 3rd graders until she retired. Liz loved life and enjoyed helping others.

Her hobbies included cooking and dressing in the latest fashion. She was recognized by many for always being very well-dressed, especially for church. She was also a well-skilled cook. She often prepared appetizing and scrumptious meals at home that tasted as if it was prepared by a gourmet cook.

In addition to her 2 children, Liz leaves to cherish her memory two very special grandchildren: Sherri Anderson and Rosalyn Lake; and two great grandchildren: Nasharya Lake and Cedric Anderson, Jr. She also leaves three sisters: Lillie (Roosevelt) Hill and Christine Head of Cleveland, OH; and Martha Miller of Nashville, TN.
