ELMO STEVEN DEAN

March 5, 1922 ~ December 20, 2016 (age 94)

Elmo Steven Dean was born March 5, 1922 in Alton, MS, to the late George and Mozella Dean. He was educated in the Mississippi School System. His continued education helped him to become a welder by trade.

His funeral service was held on Thursday January 5, 2017 at 11:00 am at Longview Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Shawn Moss in charge.  Burial was in the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, TN and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

He moved to Memphis found his first wife, Catherine Elise Dean, they were married for 53 years.

He was a Veteran of World War II. Employed by Army Defense Depot in Memphis, TN where he worked for 33 years. Several years after retiring, he began driving for Fayette County School System in the early 90’s. He was a Leather Craftsman, making wallets, belts, and lady purses, which he designed and sewed all by hand.

He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist faith for more than 60 years. He joined Mississippi Boulevard Seventh Day Church, later joining Longview Heights, New Covenant and then Bethany Seventh-day Adventist Church where his membership rest.

He enjoyed shooting pool and playing checkers up until his death.

He loved nothing more than working for the Lord. At the time of his passing, he made a point to make sure everywhere he went he passed tracks; desire of Desire of Ages and Bible Answers, any form of literature to reach a soul. He believed they should be given out as autumn leaves fall from a tree.  

He leaves his beautiful wife, Mildred Upshaw-Dean of 14 months, his daughters, Barbara (Tekla) Dean-Wold, Nicole Dean, and Sharon Dean; and a grandson, Antonio (Tiffany) Dean, his extended family includes two daughters, Shelia Johnson, and Judith Upshaw, and one son, James Upshaw, 15 grandchildren, 15 great grand children, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins along with a multitude of friends.
