Hoover Bowden

1917 –2016

Hoover Bowden came to this earth through the loins of the later Mr. Anderson and Mrs. Louvine Parham Bowden, on November 20, 1917. He entered into rest, July 30, 2016. Three brothers: John, Hillard, William, three sisters: Rose Lee, Nora, Daise Lee and one grandson, Loston Reaves preceded him in death.

His funeral service was held on Saturday August 6, 2016 at 11:00 am at New Mount Pleasant MB Church- Middleton with Pastor Nathan Gibbs delivering the eulogy.  Burial was in the Mount Zion Cemetery-Saulsbury and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

Hoover accepted Christ early in life and united with Bowden Hill CME Church where his spiritual nurturing was received. His basic education was obtained in the public schools of Hardeman County as a soldier during World War II and received an honorable discharge.

Hoover exchanged martial vows with Miss Gladys Horton, this family consisted of two sons and one daughter.

Hoover provided for his family as a Nurse’s Aid at Shelby County Hospital for 21 years. After retiring he worked for Middleton Head Start and also supervised a laundry Mat.

Latter in life Hoover united with New Mount Pleasant MB Church and served faithfully as a Deacon until health challenges prevented him from attending as he desired, but he continued to give support until his demise.

“Spoon”, which he was affectionately called by his friends and family, was a kind, easy going, and caring, generous person. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Father Hoover Bowden leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted daughter, Ms. Jeanette Grove of Middleton, TN; one granddaughter, Ms. Antoinette Reaves of Middleton, TN; two grandsons: Mr. Dale (Gale) Reaves of Tiperville, MS and Mr. Maurice (Kiki) Reaves of Middleton, TN; one sister-in-law, Ms. Nona M. Hood of Saulsbury, TN; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives, friends, and his church family, New Mount Pleasant. Father Hoover truly loved his church, his Pastor and 1st lady, Pastor Nathan and Lady Peggie Gibbs.
