Iness Ward

1918 –2016

Iness (Jones) Ward was born on April 15, 1918 to the late David and Alma (Horton) Jones. She was the third child of five children. She confessed a hope in Christ at Bowden Hill CME Church. She received her education in the Hardeman County Public School System. 

Her funeral service was held on Saturday August 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Jerome Boyd Chapel @ Dixie FH- Bolivar with Pastor David Perry delivering the eulogy.  Burial was in the Mount Zion Cemetery- Saulsbury and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

At the age 18 she was united in marriage to Tommy Lake, he later preceded her in death. A few years later, she married Mr. Willie Lee Ward. To both these unions, 11 children were born.

Georgia moved to Saint Louis, Missouri in 1969 with her family. She loved to attend church and often walked to Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday. She loved to cook and have all of her family together to enjoy a meal. She also enjoyed sewing, making quilts, and working in her vegetable garden. She spent lots of time humming and singing and loved to sing “Sweet Home.”

She departed this life at home with family at the age of 98 years old. Her parents, one brother, two sisters, her husband, and six children preceded her in death.

Georgia leaves to cherish her kind sweet and loving memories: One brother, Reverend Robert Jones, Middleton, Tennessee; three sons, Tommy B. (Mary Ann) Lake, Middleton, Tennessee, Gaston (Kim) Ward,  Saint Louis, Missouri, and Joe (Beatrice) Ward, Memphis, Tennessee; three daughters, Emma (Clarence) Williams, Etta Adams,  Annie (Frank) Edmond; two daughters in-law Della Ward, Toone, Tennessee and Dawn S. Ward, New Bern, North Carolina; 21 grand children, 14 great-grand children and one great great child, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
