Mr. James Ray Herron “Cat Ray”, son of the later Ernest and Jessie Mae “Herron” Woods was born February 21, 1948 in Bolivar, Tennessee.  

His funeral service was held on Saturday October 15, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Jerome Boyd Chapel @ Dixie FH (Bolivar, TN) with Minister George Beauregard in charge.  Burial was in the Bolivar Community Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.

He graduated from Bolivar Industrial High School and later attended Barber School.  He enlisted in the United States Army in 1966. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of Zion Temple Church of God in Christ.

Mr. James Ray Herron grew up as a brave young man on the farm with a great sense of humor. As a result of his great personality and generous spirit, he was loved by many.  James Ray will be remembered for his numerous pranks, and his “Jive Turkey” sayings and for making it known that the greatest class of Bolivar Industrial High School ever had, was the “Class of 66”.  His hobbies included woodwork, art and paintings. He lived in Nashville, Tennessee for several years and worked as a Refrigerator Repair man for 30 years before he relocated back to Bolivar, Tennessee.  His influences will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him. 

He quietly departed this life Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Tri-Star Centennial Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Jessie Mae “Herron” Woods; two brothers, Otis Herron, Ernest Woods, Jr., one sister, Loretta Johnson; and three nephews, William Johnson, Jr., Tyrone Woods and Detrick Jones.  He leaves to cherish his memory four brothers, Willis Wayne Herron, Tony (Patricia) Woods, Carlos Woods, and Reynold Woods of Bolivar; two sisters, Armatha Woods, Monetta (Don) Richardson of Bolivar, TN; one uncle, Willie James Herron of Louisville, Kentucky; two aunts, Maude Davis and Pearlean Herron Witherspoon of Nashville, TN and a special cousin, Willie (Bluchie) McGuire and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
