Mr. John Edward Mathews entered this world on July 21, 1947 to the John Lee Mathews and Velma Townes-Mathews who both preceded him in death.

His funeral service was held on Saturday March 4, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Jerome Boyd Chapel @ Dixie FH with Pastor Robert "Champ" Williams in charge.  Burial was in the West Tennessee veteran cemetery on Monday (March 6, 2017) and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

He dedicated his life to Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Genes at New Mount Pleasant Church.

Early in life he was given the nick name “NIKC” which stuck with him throughout life.

The entire Mathews family moved to California where he met and married his first wife Audrey Nimmers- Mathews, who preceded him in death. To this marriage, they conceived two children and later came seven grand children and eight great-grand children.

Nick graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Los Angeles, California and then served his country in the Vietnam.

He loved collecting and shooting guns, cooking, fishing, horseback riding on his 30 acres of land in Middleton, TN.   John loved his family and had a giant open heart full of love for all his children.

Later on in life, he married Mary Merriweather-Mathews.

He leaves to mourn, his wife: Marry Mathews of Fayette Corner, TN., four daughters: Teresa (Larry) Turner, Vernita (Robert) Mathews, Monica Merriweather and Yvette Merriweather; ten grandchildren; Katrina (Steven), Antwon (Shitonica), Deon, Karita, Clarence, Cora, Passion, Maricus, Avion, and Nathan; eight great grand children: Tynisha, Breanna, Zayquan, Madison, Antwon Jr., Deon Jr., Alaka, Omari; five brothers: Charles (LaDonna), Gene (Faye), Theatrice (Andrea), Theodore and Herman, and a host of other family members and friends; one great grand daughter: Kashyra, two brothers: Julius Claudale Mathews and Joseph Murrell Mathews, one sister:  Gwen (Dennis) Nole,  preceeded him in death.
