December 28, 1947 ~ December 25, 2016 (age 68)

John Thomas (pop) Blaylock was born on December 28, 1947 to the later Walter Blaylock and late Mattie Blaylock Futrell. He departed his life December 25, 2016 at Bolivar General Hospital. (He was in death by his brothers: Tom Jones, Robert Jones, and Elvis Blaylock: step brother, Chester Futrell, and step father, Paul Futrell).

His funeral service was held on Saturday December 31, 2016 at 11:00 am at Mt. Salem MB Church-Hickory Valley with Pastor Melvin Bufford in charge.  Burial was in the Grand Junction Cemetery in Grand Junction and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

He graduated from Bolivar Central High School in May of 1966. Before retiring John was employed by the Sequential/Crane Company for 42 years as a Production Supervisor. He also worked for GCA for 4 years located within Bolivar Middle School.

John had a deep concern and love for the youth but he did not mine disciplining any or and all of them. He was co-owner along with his wife of the first childcare center in Grand Junction, TN (capacity of 50). John coached the little league baseball team, and served as a boy scout troop leader during his younger years.

John is a child of God with a recent renewed testimony who loves God and loves doing the work of the Lord. He was a long time member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Grand Junction, TN and recently united with New Visions Ministries in Hickory, TN under the leadership of his son, Roderick Blaylock.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Etta Sinclair Blaylock August 2, 1969, and they were blessed to celebrate 47 years of marriage.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Mary Etta Blaylock of Grand Junction, TN; his only son, Roderick (Tarsha) Blaylock of Memphis, TN; four loving grandchildren: Jemesia Blaylock of Nashville, TN, Rodigah and Roderick II Blaylock both of Memphis, TN, Tyrani Blaylock, New Orleans, LA, and his best buddy his great grandson Melvin Carter Jr.: two brothers: Jerry (Cille) Blaylock of Jackson, TN and Udell (Daisy) Futrell of Bolivar, TN, one sister, Shirley Taliaffero of Jackson, TN; two step-sisters, Molly (Prince) Dubose and Charlene Black of Bolivar, TN; two sister-in-law’s, Sandra Blaylock of Jackson, TN and Joyce Tucker of Grand Junction, TN, two god sons, he helped raise Kim Hunt and Clifford Sinclair; two god daughters, Pamela Wooten of Cordova, TN and Yolanda Woodland of Eads, TN, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
