Noni Mai Hood

 1921-2016

Nonie Mai Horton Hood, 95, of Saulsbury died suddenly on Wednesday August 10, 2016 at Bolivar General Hospital.  She was born April 10, 1921 in Middleton to the late Jim and Mona Jones Horton.  She was the fourth child of seven siblings. 

Her funeral service was held on Saturday August 20, 2016 at 11:00 am at Greater Springfield Mb Church-Bolivar with Reverend Robert Parham in charge.  Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery-Saulsbury and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

She accepted Jesus Christ at the age of eight and joined Bowden Hill CME Church.  She loved her church where she willingly and cheerfully gave her time, talent and finances. She was a member of the Bowden Hill church for eighty-seven years.   

In 1935 she married the late Columbus "Pete" Hood and they were married until his death in 1993.  During this union they were blessed with seven children. 

She was a working mother and was employed at Western Mental Health Institute, Hardeman County Schools, Southwest Tennessee Human Resources-Transportation and Middleton Head Start.  She also devoted time to the Independent Society Local #3 and the Hardeman County Branch of the NAACP.

She also enjoyed her dog, Blackie.  Their relationship was like that of a mother and son.

Preceding her in death were her parents, spouse and two children, James Hood and Peggy Hood Gillum.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Columbus Chris and John L. Hood; three daughters, Geneva "Puddin"Trabue, Dr. Johnnie M. Hood and Martha Jean Hood; fourteen grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends that will truly miss her.
