Life Reflections
On Sunday, March 27, 2016, Percy Lee Lake closed his eyes to take his final rest until the return of Jesus.  He was born on June 20, 1952 to the late Oatha Lee Lake and Berniece Pirtle Lake in Bolivar, TN. He was the second of six children, born from their union. Percy and his siblings were raised in the fear and admonition of the Lord and he professed his faith at an early age. He was baptized at Oak Hill Missionary Baptist church, where he remained a faithful member until his health prevented him from attending.

His funeral service was held on Saturday April 2, 2016 at 1:00 pm at God's House of Promise-Bolivar with Bishop Des. Kelvin D. Lake in charge.  Burial was in the Oak Hill Church Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.

As a child, Percy spent countless hours working on the farm with his father. When he would get off the bus from school, he would do his homework and then work on the farm making sure his father did not have to do anything when he got home from work. Percy graduated from Bolivar Industrial High School in 1970. His strong work ethic from the farm carried over into his adult life and he spent 25 years at Harmon Automotive and another 10 years working for Sequentia Products. After recovering from a health challenge, Percy began a lawn care business in Hardeman County and was once again taking care of the land he’d loved since childhood. Never one for too much idle time, Percy also spent time taking care of cleaning the church and tending to the maintenance of its
property.
Percy loved many things, but all who knew him knew that he loved basketball and quartet music. He was a member of the church choir and Male Chorus, and he would travel all across the county in support of the Bolivar Central High School basketball team. Although he loved basketball and music, Percy loved being a father even more. He was the proud father of two sons, Kelvin and J. Montez, with whom he shared his time, stories of life lessons, the love of God, and his strong work ethic. His boys brought so much joy to his life through their participation in sports and their love for singing. Percy’s love for his children expanded further than he ever thought possible when he
became a grandfather. Even as his health began to decline, nothing brought him more pleasure than to see his grandchildren and to him them call him Papa and Grandaddy.
Percy’s strong will and determination has been passed down to his children and grandchildren.  . He will be sorely missed, but fondly remembered by his sons, Kelvin (Michelle), and J. Montez Lake and his three grandchildren Kelsey, Andrew, and Sydney. He also leaves to mourn his loss his siblings, Oather, Jr. (Mable), Vernet (Morris), Jeanette (Joshua), Annette, and Michael (Brenda); uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
