YULANDA LOUISE HENDRIX

September 18, 1973 ~ September 15, 2017 (age 44)

On Friday, September 15, 2017, Yulanda “Shug” Louise Hendrix made the transition to her heavenly home at the age of 43 years old. Born in Benton Harbor, Michigan on September 18, 1973, she gave her life to Christ as a young girl at Hopewell Baptist Church.

Her funeral service was held on Sunday September 24, 2017 at 1:00 pm at New Mt. Pleasant MB Church- Middleton with Pastor Nathan Gibbs in charge.  Burial was in the Crisp Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

Shug graduated from Coloma High School and went on to Michigan State University where she studied Engineering. Her junior year she reminisced of times she shared in the kitchen with her grandmother, mother, and aunts. It was during this time she realized her true calling was cooking. She left MSU, moved to Chicago, and began her culinary journey. She attended College of DuPage where she received her degree in Culinary and Pastry Arts.

Shug moved to Oakland, California in the early 2000s. She was dedicated to her craft, working several jobs to hone her skills. The love of cooking, coupled with an Entrepreneurial spirit gave way to a successful catering business, “Simply Bliss.” Simply Bliss blessed the souls and bellies of thousands. Because of her sensational palate, unsurpassed creativity, and attention to detail Simply Bliss became nationally known receiving invitations to cater at the White House.

We will all miss so many things about her. She leaves to cherish her memories, her parents – B.S. & Betty Hendrix of Middleton, TN; two brothers – Danny R. Hendrix of Bolivar, TN and Tyrone D.
