Elnora Wood Obituary

Elnora Wood

SEPTEMBER 9, 1927 ~ AUGUST 8, 2019 (AGE 91)

Elnora Louise Jones Wood was born September 9, 1927 to the late Robert and Lou Willie Pruitt Jones in Hardeman County, Tennessee. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and united in fellowship to Bowden Hill CME Church.

Her funeral service was held on Friday August 16, 2019 at 11:30 am at Old Bethel MBC-Middleburg with Pastor Boyle in charge.  Burial was in the church cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.

On June 16, 1944, Elnora exchanged marital vows with Mr. Montezuma E. Wood Sr., who after 57 years of marriage preceded her in death in 2001. This union was blessed with 13 children, two of whom preceded her in death: Dorothy Wood and Douglas E. (Mildred) Wood.  She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Deirdre C. Sampson. During this union, her spiritual nurturing was received at Old Bethel M.B. Church where she was a dedicated member and served in multiple auxiliaries to include the Mother’s Board, Sacrament Board, and Food Committee.

Elnora grew up in Hickory Valley, Tennessee and attended Middleburg Elementary School. She was a firm believer in Christ and always looked to the Lord. She was known to sing her favorite songs; “When the Gates Swing Open” and “Precious Lord” as she cooked, cleaned, and enjoyed her family. She had a love for cooking and would always make something special for anyone who asked.

On Thursday, August 8, 2019, God in His infinite wisdom dispatched angels to escort Elnora L. Wood home to eternal rest and at His bidding, Mother Wood returned to the holy tabernacle to join God’s Heavenly choir.  She is now rejoicing in heaven with her siblings, Robert L. Jones, Wardell J. Jones, Carrie B. Shaw, Helen Jones, Eugenia Jones, Mabel Willis and Verlie M. Wilkerson.

Mother Elnora Wood leaves behind to continue her legacy and cherish her memory six sons: Mr. Montezuma E. (Robin) Wood Jr. of Houston, TX, Mr. Everett K. (Mary) Wood of Bolivar, TN, Rev.
