Douglas Edward Joy was born March 16, 1955, the oldest out of thirteen children born to Eugene Joy, Sr. & Earline (Horton) Joy in Bolivar, TN. On July 30, 2020 at 3:35 PM. God dispatched his angels to Jackson, TN, because he saw that he was getting tired and weary.

His graveside service was held on Tuesday August  4, 2020 at 11:00 am in the Joy Cemetery with Pastor Terry Lynn Poplar in charge and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.

He accepted his Lord and Savior at MT. Bethel M.B.C. and was baptized outside in a pond, in Michigan City, MS and walked his faith out until death. He attended school in Hardeman County and left home and resided in Chicago, IL and Houston, TX the greater part of his life. He married the late Barbara Ann (Henry) Joy out of Peoria, IL and unto this union they were blessed with a son Byron Joy, born in 1982.

He was called “Jackie” by his family and friends...skillful and full of knowledge, crafted with tactful survival skills during his journey while on this earth. He was a Big Brother, designer, and entrepreneur; owner of Jack Redick clothing store in Bolivar TN, designer The Bow Tie Man, CEO of Jack Reddick, Collection Agency in Houston TX. He was an exquisite man of taste, often choosing the “FINER” things in life, especially when it came to his wardrobe selection. He could often be found sitting in a robe made of fine linen, his latest one was selected by the hands of the Lord a Purple Robe. He could often be found relaxing amongst his nephews and nieces spurring out laughter, which is known to be good for the soul.

These are the loved ones, who preceded him in death: a beloved son, Kevin Douglas Ross Joy, his father Mr. Eugene Joy, Sr. an unforgettable brother, Mr. Eddie Lee Joy, and a loving sister Shirley Harvey, paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Uyllus & Vaserine (Sain) Horton, Mr. George Hunt & Mrs. Mary (Richardson) Gordon a very special uncle, Mr. Lawyer Horton, and very special aunt, Mrs. Jerline Dudley.

He leaves behind a “Plethora of Tears” of those who cherished and loved him; his beloved mother, Mrs. Earline Joy of Bolivar, TN, 5 sons: Mr. Byron (Hayley) Joy of Houston, TX, Mr. Anthony (Tomeco) Scott of Bolivar,TN, Mr. Corey Taylor of Whiteville, TN, Mr. Dominick Griffin of Houston, TX, and Mr. Nicholas Johnson of Chicago, IL, a special beloved lady Ms. Jacqueline Mcknight of Jackson, TN, 8 precious grandchildren; Malachi of Evansville, IN, Nasir & Bayley Ann Joy of Houston, TX, Skylar Johnson of Chicago, IL, Jameela Yancey, Adasia, Larry Jones and Ladedra Murdock of Bolivar,TN:, 5 brothers: Mr. Eugene Joy, Jr, of Bolivar, TN, Mr. Randy (Shirley) Joy of Jackson, TN, SFC Tracy (Esther) Joy of Ludowici, GA, Mr. Bruce (Demetrice) Joy of Memphis, TN and Mr. Darrell Lamont Joy of Suitland, MD: 6 beautiful sisters: Mrs. Betty (Anthony) Powers of Memphis, TN, Mrs. Bunnia Faye (Rickey) Odom of Bolivar, TN, Mrs. Brenda (Pastor Terry Poplar) Toone, TN, Mrs. Sandra (Michael) Fanning, Ms. Carolyn Joy both of Nashville, TN, & Ms. Sheila Joy, of Bolivar TN, also 2 additional sisters, Mrs. Christine White of Detroit, MI, and Mrs. Pamela Johnson of Atlanta, GA, a sister-in-law Mrs. Shirley Ann Joy of Collierville,TN, a God-Sister, Carolyn (Sain) Bond of Jackson, TN, brother-in-law Harold Harvey of Chicago, IL, Uncles: Mr. Leroy and Willie C. Gordon of Indianapolis, IN, Aunts : Mrs. Julie Horton of Rockford, IL, and Mrs. Ceola Horton of Houston, TX. He also leaves his Entourage Crew of Jervis-Jervis; Andtray Stewart, Sherrod Joy, Keyun Joy, Mario Jones, Jr., Courtney
Joy, Brennan Joy, Ivan Joy, Demetrice Stewart, Deion Stewart, Trevon Stewart. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
