Labertha (Brown) Wiley

Labertha “Brown” Wiley was born on July 9, 1927 to Isom and Gillis Brown (both deceased) in Grand Junction, Tennessee. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and attended the Old Bethel M.B. Church. The family eventually moved to Bolivar, Tennessee, where she matriculated from the Hardeman County School System (Allen White High School).
As a young woman, while visiting her grandmother and aunt, she married Franklin Sims of Aberdeen, Mississippi. To that union, one child was born (Marvin). After moving back to Bolivar, Tennessee, she eventually married Augustus Howard and relocated to Chicago, Illinois. To this union, another child was born (Rodney).
In 1973, she moved back to Hardeman County and worked for the State of Tennessee Department of Mental Health, until she retired. She was also a gifted hair stylist and dress maker.
After some years had passed, she rekindled a romance with one of her childhood sweethearts, and eventually married Rayphield Wiley of Whiteville, Tennessee.
Many people bid her farwell including two sons Marvin Sims (Fran) of Santa Clarita, California and Rodney Howard (Evonne) of Memphis Tennessee; two grandsons, Curtis and Bruce Sims, two great grandsons, two great granddaughters, and three great great grandchildren; a host of cousins and friends.
