Mrs. Willie McGuire Obituary

Mrs. Willie "Bluchie" McGuire

February 14, 1924 ~ May 9, 2020 (age 96)

On February 14, 1924, a very special Valentine was born to Mr. Jim Herron and Mrs. Irene Bryant Herron in Laconia, Tennessee.

Her graveside service was held on Sunday May 17, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Union Springs MB Church with Pastor Robert Williams in charge.  Burial was in the  Church Cemetery-Whiteville and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.

She grew up in and around Shelby, Fayette and Hardeman Counties.

She attended Union Springs School where she met, fell in love, and married Mr. Sam McGuire, Sr. They settled in Whiteville where they worked the farm. To this blessed union, seven blessed children were born. Bluchie, which she was affectionately called by family and friends, was an employee of H.I.S. Jeans Factory where she worked until the plant closed. Bluchie had a larger-than-life, colorful personality and charmed everyone she met wherever she went. She even figured out a way to make a stranger her cousin. She cared about people and even took those less fortunate into her home. She would feed and take care of them. One of her frequent quotes was, “That’s somebody’s child!” She knew that she would want
her child taken care of if the tables were turned.

She professed hope in and a love for Christ at an early age and joined Union Springs Baptist Church where she served most of her adult membership as a dutiful, ever-present usher. She was a member of; The Golden Grain Good Shepherds, Chapter #56 Order of Eastern Star, and the NAACP.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Katherine; two granddaughters: Alice and Brandolyn; three grandsons: Clifford, Dedrick and Antonio. God called her home to eternal rest on May 9, 2020.

Those who shall cherish precious memories of Willie Kate ‘Bluchie’ McGuire are: the eleven children she nurtured and raised: U. L. (Laura) Sain of Decatur, IL, Lucille Davis of Jackson, TN, Annie Mae Murphy and Gloss McGuire of Whiteville, TN, Sam Jr.(Ruthie) McGuire of Middleton, TN, J. W. (Toni) McGuire of Lebanon, TN, Gladia (Leroy) Perry of Saulsbury, TN, Felita Dye of Phoenix, AZ, Monica McGuire and Jeffrey McGuire of Nashville, TN, and Tess Woods of Jackson, TN; twenty-three grandchildren, fifty-five great grandchildren and twenty great, great, grandchildren. (5 generations!); three sisters: Ms. Ola Allen, Mrs. Mildred (Van) Dakins, and Mrs. Mini Ruth (Gene) Washington all of Detroit, MI, and many other relatives, and friends.
