Walter Joy Jr. was born March 21, 1933 in Hardeman County, Tennessee to the late Walter Joy Sr., and Malinda L. Taylor.
His funeral service was held on Saturday January 16, 2021 at 1:00 pm in the New Hope MB Church Cemetery with Pastor Arthur McKinnie in charge and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.
He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Antioch Baptist Church where he served on the usher board. After marriage he moved his membership to New Hope M. B. Church serving in the church as a deacon. The light of Christ shined through his life as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Walter attended school in Hardeman County. He was employed with the Hardeman County School System where he retired after 30 years as a School Bus Driver.
Walter Joy Jr. was joined in holy matrimony to Liller Mae Brown on August 15, 1953 and to this union eleven children were born. He enjoyed spending time with family and loved using his skills and talents as a mechanic and carpenter. He was called unto his eternal rest on January 8, 2021.
He was preceded in death by parents Walter Joy Sr. and Malinda Taylor, sisters; Beatrice Pugh, Ester Johnson, Rosie Mae Crisp and Hattie Lee Bufford, five sons; Levi, Ted, Walter III, Ned, and Michael Joy; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Jean Mathews Joy and one granddaughter, Mikkell L. Joy Walter leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted wife, Liller Joy, of 67 years, six sons; Charlie Joy, Otha Joy, Worley Joy, Eddie (Peggy) Joy all of Whiteville TN, Avery (Thelma) Joy of Grand Junction TN, and one daughter;Patricia (David) Perry of Saulsbury TN, four sisters-in-law; Clara (Clarance) Woods, Alice Woods and Sarah Brown Rivers all of Bolivar TN, and Peggy (Nathan)Gibbs of Whiteville TN, two brothers-in-law; Tom (Odie B) Brown of Savannah, TN andJohn Henry(Alberta) Brown of Bolivar, TN. He also leaves grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
