Betty Beasley Obituary

Betty Elizabeth Beasley

January 19, 1959 ~ December 6, 2019 (age 60)

The diva Betty Elizabeth Beasley aka “Black Beauty”, Ms. B, Bet, Betty B, and Lil Betty was born on January 19, 1959 to the late Leroy and Bessie (Mookie) Beasley in Bolivar, TN in the Red Hill Community.

Betty was the eldest of her siblings. Her stature was small, but her heart and faith were big. She was straightforward with anyone no matter who they were. She took the lead as the matriarch of the Beasley family after her parents’ death.

She was born-again and added to the Body of Christ. She was not afraid to share her salvation experience that took place one Tuesday evening at the Mays Hill Baptist Church. During her early life Betty was a member of Mays Hill Baptist Church and Campbell Chapel Baptist Church where she served as a member of the choir and Youth Department. Betty joined the Greater Springfield Baptist Church in her later years. She also traveled with her son to support him in ministry in which she participated wherever she could. Betty grew during the segregated South, but she still pursued excellence. Her desire in life was to please God by keeping the greatest commandment of Christ when he declared for disciples to Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul and strength and thy neighbor as yourself. Betty had a special love for all her family and friends.

Her parents and one brother Lenard Beasley preceded her in death. Throughout her life, hard work and education was very important.

Betty graduated in 1977 from Bolivar Central High School. She pursued post-secondary education at JSCC. Betty did not allow the obstacle of being a single mother hinder her from providing for her family. She was employed in various vocations and served on various civic boards. She was employed at Hardeman County Health Dept, Harmon Automotive, Dossie’s Grill, Subway, caregiver, and Route 64. Her most passionate employment was for Hardeman County Schools where she served as a paraprofessional at Bolivar Central High School from 1988 to 2016 serving thousands of children until her health failed. Upon, her retirement she moved to Jackson, Tennessee. She was a former board member of Hardeman County Community Health Center, Election Commission, and Bolivar Electric Department.

Betty had various hobbies. Her favorite hobby was shopping. You would often find her shopping at Goodwill, Hope Store, or J.C Penny always looking for a deal. She was always hospitable for anyone who desired to eat or have a place to lay their head. Dancing was also a natural talent, where she was known to do the “Helicopter”. Betty enjoyed being a gatekeeper at any BCHS sport event in which many got a free pass. Enjoying her family was very important to her. Betty had great love for immediate and extended family. She is known among her cousins as their favorite cousin.

Betty fell asleep on earth and awakened in the arms of Jesus on December 6, 2019 in the home of her son in the presence of family and friends. She leaves behind two loving sons who she loved dearly; Shontaviar (Zekydia) Beasley, Javontae Allen; three grandchildren; Brooklyn, Bryson, and Brylin; two brothers, Ricky (Della Ree) Beasley, Eric (Patricia) Beasley; one aunt, Sally Elizabeth Woods and one great aunt, Lydia Beasley. Betty leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews that she reared as her children. She also leaves behind many relatives and friends who were all special to her.
