Charlene Black Obituary

Charlene (Futrell) Black

MAY 17, 1942 ~ DECEMBER 23, 2018 (AGE 76)

On Sunday, December 23, 2018, God called another angel, Sister Charlene Futrell Black, home. Charlene was born on May 17, 1942 in Hickory Valley, Tennessee to the late Mr. Paul Eddie Futrell and Mrs. Lavenia Taylor-Futrell.

Her funeral service was held on Saturday December 29, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Tate Road Christ of Christ with Brother Larry Prince in charge.  Burial was in the Crisp cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

She accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Mays Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Hickory Valley,TN. She was educated in the Hardeman County school system and graduated from Allen White High School of Whiteville, Tennessee.

Charlene met and married Mr. Leonard Black and was blessed with two children, Charlotte and Edwin. Her husband, Leonard, her son, Edwin, two brothers, Elvis and Chester Futrell, and a sister, Shirley Taliaferro, preceded her in death.

She resided for a time in Chicago, Illinois, and from 1985–1989 she was an employee of, A. Austin Phone Answering Service of Chicago, while attending Wright Medical College majoring in Business Administration. She later returned to Tennessee. After moving to Nashville in 1989, Charlene began working for Meharry Medical College where she was a dedicated employee and completed classes in communications and computer technology. She retired in 2000. Charlene attended Tate Road Church of Christ and later became a member.

She was a faithful servant to God and her church. She dedicated any time she had to studying the Word and discussing it with others.

Charlene loved her grandchildren and was very proud of their accomplishments. Wherever she went, she would talk about the things they were involved in, showing pictures of them from her phone. She leaves to cherish her memories:

 One daughter, Charlotte (James) Fields from Brighton, Tennessee.

 Four brothers: James Willie (Frankie) Futrell of Bolivar, Tennessee, Jerry (Frankie) Blaylock of Jackson, Tennessee, Rayfield (Marlene) Murphy of Whiteville, Tennessee, Udell (Daisy) Futrell of Bolivar, Tennessee.

 Two sisters: Mollie Dubose of Bolivar, Tennessee, Sherry (Clay) Hardeman Hoyle of Jackson, Tennessee.
