Frances Spencer

Mrs. Frances Spencer, 97, of Whiteville passed away at home on Sunday November 10, 2019. She was born in Hardeman County on September 21, 1921 to the late Richard and Fannie Price Woods.
Her funeral service was held on Saturday November 16, 2019 at 12:00 noon at Antioch MB Church with Reverend Melvin Bufford in charge. Burial was in the Spencer Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.
She confessed a hope in Jesus Christ at a young age and joined Union Springs MB Church. She later joined Antioch MB Church where her membership remained.
She was educated at union Springs and Allen-White Schools. At Allen-White she was a member of a girls basketball team that won a state championship. In 2008 she and some teammates were honored for their accomplishment.
In December 1942 she was married to Sessie Spencer, Sr. and through this union she was blessed with eighteen children.
She was employed several years with Harmon Automotive (Bolivar). After retirement she continued to care for her grand and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed cooking and traveling.
On her 90th birthday she received a proclamation from President Barack and Michele Obama.
She was preceded in death by her parents and spouse; sons, Willie Lee and Randolph (Johnny) Spencer; daughters, Frances (Trude) Pleasant, Corine (Doll) Humphrey, Mattie Sue Herron; stepson Willie Jones, Sr.; and four sisters and one brother.
She leaves to cherish her memory thirteen children, Dannie Mae Jarrett, Morlean Polk, Georgia Mae Murphy, Gabe (Lorene) Woods, Marie (Lawrence) Algee, Barbara Perry, Sessie (JoAnn) Spencer II, Katherine Spencer, Arie (Leo) Sain, Rayford (Minnie) Spencer, Hulon Spencer, Shery Spencer, Harold Spencer; seventy grandchildren, many great grandchildren; and many other family and friends that will truly miss her.
