Mattie Louise (Pankey) Lake
JULY 24, 1935 ~ SEPTEMBER 20, 2019 (AGE 84)
Mattie Lake was born July 24, 1935 to the late Herbert and Mattie B. Pankey.
Her funeral service was held on Saturday September 28, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Mt. Olive MB Church with Pastor Bernett Messenger charge. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.
Mattie accepted Christ at an early age at Springfield M.B. Church where she became a Sunday School Teacher.
She received her education from Allen White School. She was employed at Jervis for many years until her health failed.
Mattie enjoyed life. She loved helping people, flowers, canning food, fishing and dancing. Most of all, she loved God and her family. She demonstrated strength by pressing on even as her health failed.
Later in life, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Allen Lewis Lake. Thirteen children was born to this union. Two children preceded her in death: Michael Lake and Linda Kay Lake.
Mattie leaves to cherish her memory: eleven children; Larry (Ruby) Lake, James (Dianne) Lake, Tommy Lake, Ralph Lake, Debra Lake, Danny (Koketta) Lake, and Sharon Mathews all of Bolivar, TN., Patricia (Len) Neely of Rockford, IL., Virginia Lake of South Carolina, Darrell Lake, and Steven Lake of Anchorage, Alaska: one brother; Herbert Pankey of Chicago, IL.: four sisters; JoAnn (Willie) Woods of Bolivar, TN., Ann McTizic, Mozell Pankey, and Vernell Wymbs all of Chicago, IL.: forty grandchildren, sixty great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
