December 18, 1962 ~ January 7, 2020 (age 57)

Melvin Benard Dubose was born on December 18, 1962 to Charlie Ray Dubose and Jo Ella (Jones/Dubose) Beard in Hardeman County, Tennessee.

His funeral service was held on Saturday January 18, 2020 at 11:00 am at Antioch MB Church in Whiteville, Tn  with Pastor Jermaine Shaw in charge.  Burial was in the West Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.

Melvin peacefully transitioned this life to be with the Lord on the morning of January 7, 2020 at Regional One Health in Memphis, Tennessee. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life.

Melvin accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. After uniting in holy matrimony to Carolyn Puckett, he moved his membership to Mt. Salem Missionary Baptist Church for several years and later re-joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where his membership remained until his death.

Melvin was united in holy matrimony to Carolyn Puckett and to this union, one daughter, Aston, was born. He later united in holy matrimony to Joinna Williams and to this union, one son, Melvin, Jr. was born.

Melvin attended Bolivar Central High School, in Bolivar, Tennessee, where he graduated in 1982. He later attended Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Whiteville, Tennessee where he obtained the following certifications: Industrial Maintenance Helper; Installer and Service Helper; Refrigeration Technician; Heating and Air Conditioning Mechanic Helper; HVAC/Refrigeration Technology; and Commercial Technician. He served in the United States Armed Forces – SP4 – with an honorable discharge. He did tours of duty during Operation Iraq (OFI)/Enduring Freedom (OEF). He was also a truck driver. He worked for Jackson Metal, Aqua Glass, Wilson Well Company, Houston Well Company, and the TN Department of Transportation.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Sammie Lee Jones, and grandmother, Catherine Jones; stepdad, Frank Beard; and uncle, Robert Jones. Melvin is survived by his loving mother, Jo Ella Beard, and his father, Charlie Ray Dubose, both of Bolivar, Tennessee; one daughter, Aston (Justin) Dubose-Rivers of Michigan City, Mississippi; one son, Melvin (Lauren) Dubose, Jr. of Selmer, Tennessee; one sister, Mary (Dubose)-White of Bolivar, Tennessee; four brothers, Rodney (Sarah) Jones, Newman (Jacqueline) Dubose, Ricky (Christy) Dubose, and Eric (Angela) Dubose, all of Bolivar, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Maikya Dubose, Bentley Dubose, and Brooklyn Dubose; aunt Alma Herron of Bolivar, Tennessee, uncle James Holt of Bolivar, Tennessee, and other aunts and uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends, and one special niece, Anisha White, he helped raised as his own and affectionately called “Nicklebox;” and a special friend, Louise McNeal.
