SAM CHATMAN

March 11, 1936 ~ January 14, 2018 (age 81)

Mr. Sam Chatman Jr. was born March 11, 1936 in Hickory valley, TN to the late Mr. Samuel and Pearlee Chatman. He was the second of seven siblings.

His funeral service was held on Saturday January 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Jerome Boyd Chapel at Dixie funeral Home with Reverend Nathan Crisp in charge.  Burial was in the Campbell Chapel MB Church Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

At an early age, Sam Jr. accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Union Springs MB Church of Whiteville, TN.

Sam chose Miss Emma Mae Murphy to be his wife. God blessed them with children to nurture and train.  Sam provided for his family as an employee of a local lumber company. His wife, Emma and a daughter, Valice Dildy, preceded him in death: two brothers; James L. Cross and Freddie Chatman also preceded him in death.

Sunday morning, January 14, 2018, God dispatched an angel to the home of ‘Papa Sam’, which he was affectionately called by many who knew him, to retrieve his soul from an ailing body carrying him to a place of rest to await the return of his Savior.

‘Papa Sam’ departed this life leaving wonderful memories for his children: Mrs. Dorothy (John) Lenear of Inkster, MI, Ms. Christine Chatman of Bolivar, TN, Mr. David (Alanda) Chatman of Memphis, TN, Mr. Johnny and Mr. Barrett Chatman of Detroit, MI, MRs. Michell (Stevie) Thomas of Jackson, TN, Mr. Timothy and Mr. Teddy Woods, Mr. Amos (Debbie) Watkins of Bolivar, TN; three sisters: Ms. Vassie Murphy, Ms. Shirley Cheairs of Detroit, MI, and Ida Pearl Valentine of Bolivar, TN, two brothers: Mr. Robert Chatman of Detroit, MI and Mr. Willie Chatman of Nashville, TN; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who will cherish the fond times they spent in ‘Papa Sam’s presence.
