Bennie Lee Gregory Buchanan passed away in Bolivar on Friday March 31, 2023. She was born in Bells, TN on March 24, 1928 to the late Walter and Hassie Gregory.
Her funeral service was held on April 8, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Greater Springfield MB Church with Reverend Gloria Hogan-McKinney in charge. Burial was in the Bolivar Community Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.
She was one of nin children and attended Alamo Central High School. She attended college at Austin Peay State University, Tennessee State University, Lane College and the University of Memphis. She attended Greater Springfield MB Church.
At Tennessee State she met her spouse, Shannon M. Buchanan, Sr., and to this union four children were born; Michael, Shannon, Jr., Sandra and Gregory Buchanan.
She was emplyed as a public school teacher in Haywood and Hardeman Counties. After retiring from teaching she started a home based daycare for preschool children.
She was very active in her community and in church activities. She was a member of the Daughters of Isis and Eastern Star.
Preceding her in death were her parents and husband and two children, Shannon, Jr. and Gregory.
She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Michael and Sandra; one brother, Riley (Hadester) Gregory, eight grand children, four great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends that will truly miss her.
