Betty Ruth Crisp
June 14, 1954 ~ September 20, 2025
71 Years Old
On June 14, 1954, God sent a special gift to the late Ivy Lee and Doretha Dodson Crisp in the form of baby girl, and they named her Betty Ruth. She was the sixth of eleven children. She departed this life on September 20, 2025.
Her funeral service was held on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at 1:30 PM at Union Hill MB Church in Whiteville, Tn. Burial was in the Church Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Johnson Chapel C.M.E. Church. Later, she joined Union Hill M.B. Church under the leadership of her brother, Pastor Emeritus Jerry Crisp. There, she grew in the love of Jesus Christ and became an avid Sunday School student and always wanted her Sunday School book in the “LARGE PRINT.”
She grew up in the Vildo area and later moved to Whiteville. She attended Reuben Elementary School and later the historic Allen-White High School. She graduated from Bolivar Central High School in 1972. While at Allen-White and Bolivar Central, she was an outstanding basketball player. She excelled as a basketball player at Bolivar Central and earned a plaque on the Hall of Fame in 2022. She continued her education at Lane College and graduated in 1975.
She was employed at Western Mental Health and retired after working 30 plus years. While there, she developed a special friendship with Catherine Murphy, Michael Perry, Shirley Bell, and Melvin Ewell.
She loved sweet tea, sweets, watching westerns on TV, watching the Boston Celtics, and walking every morning with her brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Pearline.
Treasuring her legacy: her daughter, Shauna Bell; her grandson, Kasen Morrow; seven brothers, Chester (Willette), Edward (Jeanette), Ivy Joe (Pearline), Jerry (Patricia), Kenneth Ray (Sherry), Robert (Marites), and Jose (Kim); three sisters, Dorothy, Margaret (Terrance), and Denise; three aunts, Irene Joy, Ressie Crisp, and Margaret Ann Dodson. She also leaves her God-daughter, Raven Perry; bonus son, Raymond Bell, Jr. and her family of many nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, and friends.
