Birda Humphury Obituary

Birda Mae Humphury

August 19, 1940 ~ August 27, 2020 (age 80)

A TIME TO BE BORN:  On August 18, 1940, Mrs. Alberta Boyd Bufford & Mr. Johnny Bufford gave birth to a baby girl and decided to name her Birda.

A TIME TO EMBRACE:  At an early age she professed a hope in Christ at Clover Garden C.M.E. Church. She later joined Temple of Faith and she fellowshipped there until she moved to Jackson, TN.

A TIME TO LOVE & LAUGH:  Birda was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Mr. George Humphrey. To this union ten children were born. Birda’s joy was babysitting everybody’s children.  She loved cooking; she could take a little bit and feed  her whole family. She had a love for outside; she loved taking  her walks and sitting on the porch. She was a happy person with few words, and never complained about anything. Birda was a caring person; her passion was dressing, especially in her favorite color (RED).

A TIME TO DIE:  Birda departed this life on Thursday, August 27, 2020. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, and five children: L.C Bufford, Martha Humphrey, Sarah Humphrey, Susie Humphrey & Frank Humphrey; Siblings: Addie Pearl Price, Cal Sue Perkins, Larry Douglas & James Douglas.

A TIME TO CELEBRATE and MOURN:  Her private service was held on Saturday September 5, 2020 at 11:00 am at Jerome Boyd Chapel @ Dixie FH with Min. Yvonne Shepard in charge and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.

Birda leaves to cherish her fond memories; one son: George Humphrey of Jackson, TN, four daughters: Brenda (Bobby) Adams, Mary Finch, and Linda Humphrey of Milwaukee, WI, and Pauline Braddock of Jackson, TN; Four sisters: Irene Douglas and Pauline (William) McKinnie of Whiteville, TN, Minnie Allen of Little Elm, TX and Earline Douglas of Cleveland, OH: one brother: Willie Douglas of Whiteville, TN; twenty-one grandchildren; forty-nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
