Brenda Joyce Woods, a beloved mother, daughter, sibling and friend, passed away peacefully on October 1st, 2024, at the age of 60.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee on March 9th, 1964, Brenda and her family moved to South Dakota where she graduated from Milbank High School in 1982. There she excelled as a member of the gymnastics team, concert choir, and participated in various theatrical productions.

Following high school, Brenda attended Sioux Falls College for two years before transferring to South Dakota State University (SDSU), where she studied from 1984 until the spring of 1987. During her time in Sioux Falls, she also graduated from the Barbizon School of Modeling and engaged in local modeling and beauty pageants.

In 1987, Brenda took a leap of faith and moved to Connecticut to work as a nanny, a role she cherished until her return to Huron in 1989, where she welcomed her first-born Letitia. There, she attended Huron University and graduated in the Spring of 1991 with a degree in Business Administration and took a position as a sales representative for Xerox.

Brenda then returned to Somerville, Tennessee and served as a grant writer at Head Start followed by positions in Oakland High School and Adult Learning Center as an Educator. In 1997, she was married to Charles Woods Sr., and together they welcomed two children, Marie and Charles Jr.

Brenda was an active member of her community, regularly attending and serving as Secretary at Smith Chapel MB Church. She was also a dedicated Mary Kay distributor, leading her own team and participating in several conferences in Texas where she was presented with the coveted red jacket.

A talented craftswoman, Brenda enjoyed hobbies such as cross stich, needlework, and crocheting. Her love for socializing and engaging with others was evident in her many friendships and lively conversations.

Brenda’s resilience in the face of life’s challenges, including her battle with multiple sclerosis, inspired those around her.
