Callie L Dodson
January 4, 1935 ~ December 28, 2024
89 Years Old
Callie Lee Woods Dodson was born January 4, 1935 in Fayette County, TN to the late Galveston Woods and Rosie Lee Perry Woods.
She was the fourth of eight children.
Her funeral service was held on Friday January 11, 2025 at the Jerome Boyd Chapel at Dixie Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Crisp in charge. Burial was in the Smith Chapel Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.
Her parents along with five siblings preceded her in death, William Sidney, Bobbie Ann, Noble, Dorothy, and Marvarene.
She attended elementary school in Fayette County, but later moved to Hardeman County and graduated from the Historic Allen White High School.
Callie was united in Holy Matrimony to Aaron Dodson for more than twenty-five years. She and her husband moved to Memphis and later to East Chicago, Indiana. He preceded her in death.
As a child, she accepted Christ and joined Smith Chapel MB Church.
After moving to East Chicago, she joined Good Will Baptist Church under the leadership of her uncle, Rev. Noble Woods. She later united with Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor James Hunter. After years in East Chicago, she relocated back to Tennessee and reunited with Smith Chapel under the leadership of Pastor W.H. Bass and later Pastor Shon Beasley.
She was very active in all churches. She worked with the railroad system in East Chicago and retired from the company. She was a very social person and loved being around people which led her to become a caregiver for several people.
She loved playing cards and watching basketball. Her favorite team was the Golden State Warriors. Her smile, laughter and personality will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two brothers, C.L. and Charles Woods both of Indiana; a step daughter, Juanita (Jimmie) Murphy; step grandson, Scottie Murphy of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; a god daughter, Ursula Peppers of Merrillville, Indiana; one sister in law, Margaret Dodson of Memphis, TN. Callie didn’t have any children, but she had so many nieces and nephews that she loved and nurtured and helped to take care of. On Sunday afternoons, she would get out her phonebook and give them all a call. She had several cousins that were dear to her, Miriam Gates, Peter White, Colleen Sain and Alfreda Lurry and a host of other family members and friends.
