Collis Spencer of Whiteville, Tennessee passed away suddenly on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the age of 79.

His funeral service was held on Saturday August 24, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Antioch MB Church with Pastor Jermaine Shaw in charge.  Burial was in the church cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service

He was born on September 11, 1944, to Evelyn Motely and Addie Woods Spencer.

However, he was raised by Gussie and Mary Lue Spencer in Whiteville, TN.

A special Aunt, Christine Joy, impacted Collis life tremendously. He viewed her as his second Mom & was one of the main reasons he moved back to TN, after his retirement. He loved her unconditionally & he treated him like he was her biological son. It gave her joy to shower him throughout the years with her good old recipes of peach turnovers & various cakes and pies. Although she preceded him in death, the bond they shared was priceless.

Collis attended and graduated from Allen White High School in 1962.

He was employed by Airborne Express and retired after working there 32 years.

Collis will be fondly remembered by his jovial personality which always ignited a chuckle or two. And we can’t forget he had to have his bowl of ice cream before retiring to bed each night.

Collis leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 55 years, Delores Spencer; three daughters, Senora Lahiani, New York, NY; Arletha Thompson (Ronald), Memphis, TN; Daphne Davis (Milton) Williamston, NC; one son Keith Garrett, New York; two sisters, Augustine Johnson, Rockford, IL and Elvira Motley, St. Louis, MO, one brother Mac Arthur Spencer (Brenda), Rockford Ill; two grandchildren, Olivia Harris, (Albert), Atlanta, GA; Justin Robeson, Williamston, NC and host of other relatives and friends. Collis was preceded in death by brothers Clarzel Spencer and Sherry Spencer.
