Contina Cowan (McCarley) Gatewood

Mrs. Contina Louise Gatewood was born on February 19th to the late Rev. Marvin Jr. & Ellise McCarley.

Her funeral service was held on Saturday October 19, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the St. Paul Skipper Springs MB Church with Pastor Algie Terry in charge.  Burial was in the church cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.

She departed this life on October 13th, 2024 at TriStar Summit Health Care in Heritage, TN.

Contina attended Hardeman County Schools and was a graduate of Middleton High School class of 1991.

She confessed Christ as her Savior at an early age and became a member of St. Paul M.B. Church.

Contina loved her family and was the life of the party.

Contina relocated to Nashville, TN where she was employed in the healthcare field. She became a member of Community Baptist Church in Nashville, TN under the leadership of Pastor Johnson.

Contina was united in Holy Matrimony to Timothy Gatewood on August 21st, 2021.

Along with her parents, Contina was preceded in death by three brothers; Michael McCarley, Michael Coleman, & Robert Armour.

Contina leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband, Timothy Gatewood; six sisters, Shirley Curry of Nashville, TN, Faye (Frankie) Boyd of Ripley, MS, Barbara (Mack) Gatlin of Grand Junction, TN, Linda Girley of Ripley, MS, Edith (Therman) McKinnie of Grand Junction, TN, and Sandra (Charles) Buggs of Michigan City, TN; two brothers, James (Lois) Brook of Grand Junction, TN and James Girley of Blue Mountain, MS; four aunts, Marjorie McClellan, Patricia Anderson, Marilyn Higgs, and Debbie Armstrong; one uncle, Johnny (Lillie) Traylor; a special sister-in-law, Mary Coleman; two bonus sisters, Brenda Gibson and Dortha (Cedric) Thompson; five sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
