David Jones Obituary

David Green Jones

September 6, 1961 ~ December 6, 2022 (age 61)

David Green Jones was born September 6, 1961 in Flint, Michigan to Robert David and Eva Lillian (Blake) Jones, two strong people of Christian faith.

The entire family was spiritually based as members of First Union Baptist Church and involved in many activities. The youngest of six children, David observed his siblings, but had a persistent attitude and was determined to; “Do things his own way”. As a historical note, David was given the complete namesake from his grandfather on his father’s side of the family.

David graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1979, a miracle to some because, instead of maximizing his educational potential, David often skipped school and frequently played on the school parking lot instead. Once again, David was “doing it his own way”.

After graduating from High School David married Karen Waters and they had two sons, David II and Savian. Employed as a custodian for 23 years at the Flint Community Schools, David exhibited his staunch attitude of “Doing it his own way”.

Nevertheless, he gained the respect of staff and co-workers alike. David spent most of his life “doing things his own way” - - BUT GOD!!! It has been said that “When man is at his end God is just beginning”. Following his retirement from the Flint Schools David moved to Middleton, TN in 2005 and established his residence directly across the street from his parents, He then married Twanna Key, his wife for seven (7) years. As a result of his Christian upbringing, David united with Bowden Hill CME Church and became a Sunday School Teacher among other endeavors. In an effort to increase his biblical knowledge through questions and answers, he would regularly attend the Wednesday night Bible study at New Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. He and his parents were part of “A Thought To Live By”, a regular Friday night Christian-oriented broadcast on WOJG - 94.7FM, where he was a commentator until 2019 when his health began to fail.

He was a member of Independent Lodge #3 in Middleton, where he served as Chaplain and newly elected Vice-President. He loved visiting patients at Pine Meadows Nursing Home which he considered part of his ministry to others. Although he was very opinionated, David had a loving personality and a captivating smile which endeared him to many people. He was known to be direct and pulled no punches, but he could always make you laugh. David had a sense of humor and a spirit of fraternizing. He possessed a charming personality and spent many hours conversing with shoppers at Wal-Mart and other places in Bolivar and the surrounding area. He really enjoyed “dressing up” for special occasions His hobbies were taking pictures and collecting model cars.
