Mother Dezzie Parks was born on March 27, 1933, to the late Robert and Myrtle Jones. She departed this life on May 26, 2023.
Her funeral service was held on Saturday June 3, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Hopewell MB Church with Pastor L. B. Mason in charge. Burial was in the Church Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.
Mother Parks confessed her belief in Christ at an early age and joined the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. She served as a secretary and was later appointed as the President of the Mother Board Ministry. She served and remained active in church until she began experiencing health complications.
Mother Parks was united in holy matrimony to the late Gunner Parks Sr. Together they raised a family of twelve children.
Mother Parks was employed at Harmon Automotive Inc. For 23 years. After retirement, she spent quality time with her family, friends, and dedicated much of her time to visiting the sick and shut in.
Mother Parks was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Myrtle Jones, her husband Gunner Parks Sr., her siblings Della Craig, Oliver Jones, R.B. Jones, Daisey O’Bannon, James Anderson, Alfred Anderson, Augusta Dunlap, Robert Lewis, Joyce Spencer, her children Micheal Parks, Annie B. Parks, Myrtle B. Parks, a grandson Michael A. Parks, and a special son-in-law Tommie Parks Sr.
She leaves to cherish her stepbrother Oda Tynes, Nine children: Gunner Parks Jr. , Willie Parks (Eleanor), Diane Parks, Evelyn Williams, Robert Parks (Linda), Lelsa Parks, Larry Parks (Jannie), Danice Polk (Tommie), and Dennis Parks (Lynn). 25 Grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, several godchildren she loved so much as her own, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
