DOROTHY (WOODS) HICKS was born to the late Galveston and Rosie Lee Woods on Thursday, May 20, 1937, in Whiteville, Tennessee.

DOROTHY was educated in the Hardeman County school system. After graduating from Allen White High School she then went on to attend Lane College.

DOROTHY was united in holy matrimony to GW Hicks. The couple resided in Hammond, Indiana where she worked at St. Margaret Hospital before retiring and returning to her hometown of Whiteville, TN. In this union, DOROTHY was blessed with her daughter, Gwyn Wilson.

DOROTHY found Christ at a very early age at Smith Chapel M.B. Church where she served on several auxiliaries. While in Hammond, she was a faithful member of Goodwill M.B. Church in East Chicago, Indiana. She served the church in several capacities including Sr. Usher and Junior Usher Leader.

DOROTHY loved her family; she loved to cook, and she loved inviting others to her home for a good meal. She looked forward to bringing family together every other June for the Family Reunion Celebration where she would display all of her famous baked goods and her signature chocolate pie.

DOROTHY will be missed by all who knew her, but we know that to be absent from the body means to be present with the Lord. She departed this life on Monday evening, May 25, 2021, at Jackson- Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.

DOROTHY was preceded in death by her loving parents, brothers Nobel Woods and William Sidney Woods; and her sisters Bobbie Woods Moore and Marvarene Woods Washington.

DOROTHY leaves to cherish her memory husband GW Hicks, daughter Gwyn Wilson; granddaughter Nia Wilson; great-grandson Jayce Allen; brother Charles Woods; sister Callie Dodson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
