Ethel Abbott Obituary

Ethel Mae Abbott

November 7, 1931 ~ May 3, 2022 (age 90)

Ethel Mae Abbott Avent, 90, passed away May 3, 2022. She was born to the late Grant and Nannie Mae Abbott on November, 7, 1931.

Her funeral service was held on Saturday May 14, 2022 at 12:00 noon at the Hillfield MB Church with Pastor Lawrence Pirtle in charge.  Burial was in the Church Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

Her siblings that preceded her in death are: Grant Abbott, Jr., Malinda Grandberry, and Corine Abbott: one brother in law; Johnny Williams.

She was educated in the Hardeman County schools where reading and spelling were her favorite subjects. She was a daddy’s girl and dedicated her early years on the farm helping her father and raising her baby brother, Gene and her niece, Gracie.

She was employed by Kilgore where she spent at least 15 years. Her hobbies were cooking, canning, gardening, shopping and traveling with her favorite cousin, Carolyn Shelton. She was a sharp dresser and a “shoe and purse-aholic” and would spend countless hours until she found the perfect pair and matching purse.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and joined the Hillfield Baptist Church. She has been a faithful member for over 75 years.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Avent. They were married on April 11, 1998. They have been best friends throughout the years, the first one to call in the morning and the last one to talk to at night. Their marriage was unconventional in that each lived in their own home, but had sleepovers on the weekend. They were always there for each other. It was a perfect match for them. If you told her something funny, she would always say, “Wait, until I tell Joe!” She gained five daughters; Zoie AventCarroll (Bobby), Wanda McDaniel, Sonia Bills (Jimmy), Velma Richardson (Deceased), Pandora Chatman (Deceased), fifteen grandchildren, six nieces and five nephews.
