A Time to be Born: Gaylon Darel “Duke” Cross was born on July 12, 1969 to the late Mr. Noble Lee Cross, Sr. and Mrs. Doretha Cross. He was the youngest of fifteen children.
A Time to Live: Gaylon attended Hardeman County School System and later obtained his GED. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Union Springs MB Church where his membership remained until his death. Gaylon dedicated over twenty five years to a multifaceted work history that included; Kilgore, Ice, Softee, Delta Faucet, Raymond Siler’s Body shop, and Clover Bottom Development Center in Nashville, TN, but his most rewarding and favorite job was at Western Mental Health Institute as a truck driver for food service. He dedicated five years of devoted services. Despite of his bad days, he would still go to work. Gaylon was loved and known by many. He had a bright light resonating from within that was contagious. If you weren’t smiling, that was soon to change in Gaylon’s presence. He loved laughing, spending time with family and friends, and living life to the fullness of joy. He was a people person; he never met a stranger.
A Time To Die: On Thursday, October 26, 2023 at approximately 4:30PM, Gaylon was called home to rest after a lengthy illness. Even though our hearts are sad, we find comfort in knowing that “Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can’t heal.” Both parents; Mr. & Mrs. Noble Lee Cross, Sr. and two brothers; Noble Lee Cross, Jr. and Tommie Ray Cross, Sr. preceded him in death.
His funeral service was held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Mt. Salem MB Church with Pastor Ernest Polk in charge. Burial was in the Union Springs MB Church cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.
