George Croom

George Augusta Croom was born April 9, 1929 to the late Curling “Bunt” Croom and Rosie Cox. Rosie needed help in caring for him while she worked. His great grandmother said she would take care of him if she give her custody of him, so he became her son and moved to Hardeman County. His mother Rosie visited each weekend until she passed away when he was eight years old. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Clover Chapel MB Church where he was a dedicated member.

His funeral service was held on Tuesday February 1, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Jerome Boyd Chapel at Dixie Funeral Home with Reverend George Beauregard in charge.  Burial was in the Clover Chapel Church Cemetery-Cloverport.

George was the church janitor and custodian, President of the Youth Choir, Sunday School Superintendent, and chairman of the Deacon Board. He was treasurer of the NAACP in Bolivar, a member of the Masonic until his wife health failed.

George worked at Anderson Fruit Farm in the Orchid and planting crops. He loved driving the tractors and other farm equipment.

George was united in Holy Matrimony on December 23, 1949 to the late Mary Ann Croom for sixty five years until her death on July 11, 2014. This union raised four girls. He was a loving father.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Croom: three sisters; Harriet Walker, Lee Anna Gant, and Edna Guy: one brothers; Curtis Croom: two daughters; Shirley A. Douglas and Judith Posey: five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. George leaves to cherish his memory two daughters; Glenda (Bobby) March of Medon, TN and Betty (Marvel) Brook of Denmark, TN: one sister-in-law; Helen Theus of Mercer, TN: six living grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, thirteen great - great grandchildren, a special friend, Christ Gant and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
