February 28, 1958 ~ July 21, 2020 (age 62)

George Edward “Nine-8” Woods was born February 28, 1958 to Ruby Mae Townsel and Walter Knox in Memphis, TN.

His graveside service was held on Saturday July 25, 2020 at 11:00 am at Bolivar Community Cemetery with Pastor Melvin Bufford in charge and Dixie Funeral Home (www.dixiefuneralhome.com) was in charge of the professional service.

George was raised in Hardeman County by his adopted parents: the late Minnie and Flem Woods.

George was well known in Hardeman County. He was known for being a champion skater. He loved basketball and was known for getting winning teams together for games at the municipal building and other places throughout Hardeman County. George was also known as a peace maker.

George worked at several places through out his life but his last job was Exxon in Jackson, TN.

George was preceded in death by: two sisters; Barbara Ann Woods and Patricia Dubose: two brothers: Darryl Benett and Walter Lee Fields along with his adopted parents and his biological father.

In 2003, George moved to Jackson, TN and was united in Holy Matrimony to Tia Michelle Gladney. To this union, one daughter was born.

George leaves to cherish his memory: his mother; Ruby Mae Townsel: grandmother; Robert Ella Parker: nine children; Verika ( Detrick) Smith, Myreon Woods, Chelsea Woods, George Woods JR., Taylor Woods, Mario Mcquire, Za’Kerrigan Wallace, Ambria Walker, Sterling Rivers, and Montreal Harris: three step children; Keon Gladney, Michael Gladney, Larry Douglas: four sisters; Janice Keith, Cynthia Benett, Carol Dubose, and Nearlean Wood Clark: twenty one grandchildren: one special grandchild; Anauja Woods: one nephew; Dallas Jerald Woods; One special nephew; Timothy “TJ” Robinson JR: four close friends; Gary Rivers, Jerry Polk, Jewel Jarrett, and Tvarski Beauregard and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
