Georgia Mae Murphy

84 Years Old
Mrs. Georgia Mae Murphy was born on December 3rd , 1939, to the late Sessie Spencer, Sr. and Rosie Lee Joy-Spencer in Fayette County, TN.
Her funeral service was held on Saturday January 6, 2024 at 11:00 am at Antioch Baptist Church with Elder Nanette Ponder in charge. Burial was in the Church Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixieuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.
She was the youngest of seven children born to her parents. Rosie passed away when Georgia Mae was two years old. Her father later remarried to Frances Woods Spencer, and she raised Georgia Mae as her own. Frances was the only mother she knew.
Georgia Mae graduated from Allen White High School in 1958.
She worked diligently in multiple factories until she retired, but she didn’t stop there. After retirement, she began working with the Hardeman County Head-start Program. She adored and worked with her bonus grandchildren until her health declined.
She confessed her love for Christ at an early age and joined the Antioch Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member until her health declined. She was a member of the choir for many years and served as choir President. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens choir.
Georgia Mae married Eugene (Boo Boo) Murphy on May 3rd, 1961. To this union five children were born, Linda, Jasper, Corsella, Nanette, and Musante. She also had two stepchildren: Marvin Reynolds (Jackson, TN), and Oweta Chatman (Memphis, TN).
Georgia Mae departed this life on Wednesday, December 27th , 2023, at the Jackson General Hospital in Jackson, TN.
She was proceeded in death by her husband: Eugene (Boo Boo) Murphy; her parents Sessie Spencer, Sr, Rosie Lee Joy-Spencer, and Frances Woods-Spencer; her brothers Willie Lee Spencer, and Randolph Spencer; sisters Corine Humphrey, Frances (Tude)Pleasant, Mattie Sue Herron, and Dannie Mae Jarrett. She was also proceeded in death by a son-in-love: Shannon Buchanan, Jr., brothers in-love Jessie Murphy, Charlie Murphy, Willie Murphy, and Charles Perry; and sisters-in-love: Lucille Williams, Jeannie McNeal, Elizabeth Murphy, and Louise Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memories five children: Linda Faye (Melvin) Bufford of Bolivar, TN, Jasper (Theresa) Murphy of Oakland, TN, Corsella Buchanan of Bolivar, TN, Nanette (Michael) Ponder of Nashville, TN, and Eugene Musante (Lisa) Murphy of Chelsea, AL. She leaves ten grandchildren: Tamariyo Bufford of Whiteville, TN, Tanesha Bufford of Memphis, TN, Michael Joseph (Samantha) Ponder of San Antonio, TX, Damarious Bufford of Bolivar, TN, Jasity Murphy of Millington, TN, Nicholas Ponder of Lebanon, TN, Jasper Murphy, II of Whiteville, TN, Shaina Buchana of Bolivar, TN, Juwan (D’Alexandria) Murphy of Caloeria, AL, and Victoria Murphy of Birmingham, AL. She also leaves five great-grandchildren: who affectionately called her “Big Granny”, Tamera Bufford of LaVergne, TN, Aashya Ponder of Lebanon, TN, Christopher Ponder of San Antonio, TX, JaCi Murphy of Murfreesboro, TN, and Ashtin Murphy of Whiteville, TN. She leaves six sisters: Marie (Lawrence) Algee of St. Louis, MO, Barbara Perry of St. Louis, MO, Katherine Spencer of Milwaukee, WI, Cheryl Spencer of Milwaukee, WI, Morlean Polk of Whiteville, TN, Arie Lee (Jimmie) Sain of Whiteville, TN. She leaves five brothers: Gabe (Lorrene) Spencer of Dover, DE, Hulon Spencer of Dover, DE, Sessie (Joann) Spencer, Jr, of St. Louis, MO, Rayford (Minnie) Spencer of Bolivar, TN, and Harold Spencer of Whiteville, TN. She leaves one brother-in-love: James Jones of Whiteville, TN and one sister-in-love: Geneva Murphy of Louisville, KY.
