James Edward Allen

July 20, 1945 ~ January 25, 2024

78 Years Old

James Edward Allen (Toot), age 78, passed away surrounded by his family on the morning of January 25, 2024.

His funeral service was held on Saturday February 3, 2024 at 11:00 am at Dixie Funeral Home with Pastor James Morgan in charge.  Burial was in Jones Grove MB Church cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

James was born in July 20, 1945 in Hickory Valley, TN, the oldest child of James and Lucille Allen. James had a career with General Motors for 30 years, first in Detroit and later in Kansas City, MO.

After retirement he spent his time working in the yard and enjoying time with his family.

He loved sports, spending hours cheering on his beloved Kansas City Chiefs. James loved to tell stories and to have a good time; he always made the people around him laugh and feel special. James was a giant of a man, a loyal friend and everyone who knew him loved him. Most importantly, he was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a loyal friend.

James will be missed by many for his kindness, his razor-sharp wit, and his quiet sense of humor. He never met a person he couldn’t call a friend.

James’s memory was remarkable, especially with numbers, dates like Birthdays, and remembering people. He was a role model for his children and friends’ children and neighborhood children. He could always be counted on to give practical wise counsel. He taught them the value of a hard days work and living life honestly grounded in integrity. We are grateful to have known and loved our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend.

James is preceded in death by his devoted wife of 27 years, Beverly Allen, his loving parents, and his sister Earnestine.

Left to cherish his memories is his son, James Allen III; daughters, Justina Allen and Jamese Allen; grandchildren, Karson Allen and Nylah Ward; siblings Clarence, Annie Lou (Ted), Bobbie, Homer, Mary, Ella (Tad), Willie (Dena), Donnie (Patsy), Teresa (Marshall), Doretha (Marcus), and Tammy (Derado) and a host of other relatives.
