April 1, 1944 ~ November 7, 2021 (age 77)

Reflections of a free-spirit, risk-taking, loving and kind soul are words that epitomize Joe Lewis Woods, Sr. Joe was born to the Late Leroy Williams and Ocie Williams. Joe Woods, Sr. was called to his “heavenly home” on Sunday, November 7, 2021.

His funeral service was held on Saturday November 13, 2021 at 3:00 pm at the Jerome Boyd Chapel at Dixie Funeral Home with Pastor William D. Young in charge.  Burial was in the Bolivar Community Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

Joe Woods, Sr. was born April 1, 1944. He began his life’s journey in Hardeman County Tennessee, where he attended school and graduated from Bolivar Industrial High School. He was drafted into the United States Armed Forces soon after high school and was a part of the Vietnam War, where he proudly served our country for many years. After the war, he attended and graduated from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee with a Sociology degree. He worked a very fulfilling career with Department of Human Services in Bolivar, Tennessee until his retirement.

He accepted Christ at an early age where he was a member of Campbell Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Joe Woods, Sr., and Mable Miller were joined together in holy matrimony and had a union that would last 45 years.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory a loving Wife; He was the proud father of three children: Daughters, Shundra McKinnie Cannon (Alan) of Houston, TX; Holly Woods of Bolivar, TN, and Son; Joe (Falante) Woods, Jr. of Bolivar, TN. His Mother, Ocie Williams of Bolivar, Tn. Siblings: Rev. Robert Lee (Lillie), Ms. Georgia Griffin, Mr. Victor Alonzo, Mr. Willie Benard (Sylvia), all of Bolivar, TN; Mrs. Patricia (Kent) Woods, Mr. Cecil (Peggy) of Nashville TN. Mr. Geroy (Lynn) of St. Paul, MN., Mr. Dewayne (Brenda) of San Diego, CA., Mr. Kenneth (Debroah) of Jackson, TN. He was proceeded in death by his sister, Essie Mays and brother, Bobby Joe Williams. Grandchildren: Austen and Aniya Cannon, Ahmir Woods, Skyy A Chism, Nyja Woods, Carsha Woods, Jovontay Woods, JoMarian Woods, Josiah Woods. One Great grandchild, Taylan Woods. Brother-in-laws: Late Richard Miller, Late Leroy (Mary) Miller and Late Wendall, Sr (Jean) Miller; Ridley Miller (Oneita) of Decatur, IL., Calvin Miller (Martha) of Nashville, TN. Sister-in-laws: Elizabeth Grady, Des Moines, IA; Clara Copeland, Decatur, IL., Helen Payne, Nashville, TN. He had a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
