Kourtney Murphy -McKinnie Obituary

Kourtney Murphy - McKinnie

September 10, 1978 ~ September 21, 2022 (age 44)

Kourtney Kimmond Murphy-McKinnie was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. Kourt (as she was affectionately called) was born on September 10, 1978 to Julia and Willie (Dee) Murphy.

She transitioned peacefully to her Heavenly home at 1:25 pm on September 21, 2022 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents (Joseph and Josephine Lewis), paternal grandparents (Henry and Ida Mae Murphy), an aunt (Murchillia Murphy Boyd), and a uncle (Henry Murphy, Jr.). Kourtney began her Christian experience at an early age and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.

She was baptized by Reverend Simon Peter Hunt and joined New Zion M. B. Church in LaGrange, TN.

She grew up and attended school in Bolivar, TN. After graduation from Bolivar Central High School, she attended the University of TN at Martin.

During her enrollment there, Kourtney was able to maintain her position on the Dean’s List every semester; this was done while commuting to Martin daily after working a job at night.

Kourtney would soon transfer to Southwest Community College where she obtained an Associate Degree in Nursing and then continuing her preparations and receiving her BSN from Loewenberg College of Nursing at the University of Memphis.

She became ill and conquered two heart surgeries. Because of her illness and surgeries, she understood how a patient would feel being in that part of the hospital and decided to work on the “cardiac floor” of Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis, TN. Kourtney loved nursing and was devoted to helping others. She recently became employed at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN, and chose working in the Cath Lab. She was placed on the heart transplant list and was in top contention of receiving a heart. Kourtney was a donor. Because of her love, generosity, and compassion for others, Kourtney gave the “gift of life” and her gifts will help three families.

In August 2001, Kourtney was united in Holy Matrimony to Charles McKinnie. To this union three children were born: Kaleigh Rhyann, Kayleb O’Brien, and Kaedyn Adair. Kourtney loved her family, and they became her being.

Kourtney leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Charles; three children, Kaleigh, Kayleb, Kaedyn; Mother, Julia Murphy Goff; Father, Willie Murphy; three brothers, Willie Harris, Karlos Murphy (Crystal), and Kristopher Murphy; two sisters, Asia Murphy of Murfreesboro, TN, and London Murphy of Denmark, TN; nieces and nephews, Krista Murphy, Knox Murphy, Christopher Driver, Je’kedra Boyd, Jekayla Boyd, Josiah Woods, Maliyah Harris, Jesmond McKinnie, Carly Blaylock, Tyricus McKinnie, Deanna McKinnie, Lashonna Davis, Bryson Morrow, Tamarcus Morrow, and Krysten McKinnie; two sister in laws, Tonya Blaylock (Carlos), and Linda Davis (Tyrone); and a host of other family and friends.
