Lawrence Jones

November 9, 1952 ~ October 26, 2025 (age 72)

James “Lawrence” Jones, the tenth of seventeen children born to Maynard and Rosetta Jones of Middleton, Tennessee, was born on November 9, 1952.

His funeral service was held on Sunday November 9, 2025 at 2:00 pm at God's House of Promise.  Burial was in the church cxemetery and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

Lawrence received his education through the Hardeman County School System. Although a native of Hardeman County, he also lived in Louisville, Kentucky in 1973 before returning to Bolivar, Tennessee in 1981.

Shortly after his return to Tennessee, he met and married his wife, Mary “Lousie” McClellan Jones, to whom he was married until her passing. Together they attended New Bethel Baptist Church, now known as God House of Promise Ministries.

Lawrence possessed many skills and hobbies, including carpentry, truck driving, construction, playing his bass guitar, shing, yard work, barbering, and cooking. His favorite pastimes included watching wrestling and cowboy movies, and he was well-known for his humor and storytelling.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary “Lousie” McClellan Jones; his parents, Maynard and Rosetta Jones; and siblings Paul Russell Jones, Sonny Woodrow Jones, Gaston Jones, Evie Gill, Cornelius Jones, Marie Grin, Charlie Jones; and Clara Faye Echols. Lawrence leaves to cherish his memory: his former wives, Margie “Faye” Jones, mother of Camisha Jones Johnson (Rodney) and James Lawrence Jones, Jr., and Yvette Barber, mother of Christopher Lawrence Jones; his granddaughter Victoreya Hendrix and great- grandson Wisdom Lawrence O’Neal Henry; his siblings Marietta Robinson, Jacob Jones, Emma Hill (Nathaniel), Ruby Miller (Charles), Patricia Womack (Melvin), Glenn Jones, Wanda Hamer (Hubert), and Winfred Jones; Theomis Page and Michael Crisp; bonus grandchildren Octavious, Shairice, Terrell, Brittney, Nyla, and Zion; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
