Lorenzo Long Obituary

Lorenzo Long

April 24, 1937 ~ July 4, 2022 (age 85)

Lorenzo Long was born April 24, 1937 in Hardeman County (Bolivar, TN) to the late Virginia Talley and Lorenzo News.

His funeral service was on Sunday July10, 2022 at 1:00 pm at New Bethel's God's House of Promise Ministries with Pastor Blanche Cox in charge.  Burial was in the church cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

He was raised by his loving mother and hard working stepfather, Aaron Long whom his mother married in 1943 when he was six years old.

This union brought forth five children, Jimmie, Edna, Shirley, John, and Maxine. “Lo” called by his family and friends obtained his education in the Hardeman County School System.

Lo was raised in church.

He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Hoodies now known as “New Bethel God’s House of Promise Ministries.” He was a faithful member until he and his wife health began to fell.

Growing up, Lo was taught how to be a hard worker. He learned all types of skills and trades. He put the skills to use on his journey as he was employed at Master Slack, Harmon Automotive (formerly known as Jervis), Hardeman County Highway Department, Howell Lumber Company, and Hardeman County Sheriff Department. Lo did not mind sharing his knowledge, he would be tickled to show people what he knew. Hard work is all Lo knew how to do. When his health began to fail and the doctor told him he could no longer drive or work, this deeply aggravated and upset him. That was so hard for him to accept that.

Lo loved to listen to gospel music, playing the guitar, working in the garden, cutting grass, and to just find anything to do outside. Nineteen Fifty-Nine, Lo became a father to William Harris. Lo was united in Holy Matrimony to Bessie Polk. This union brought forth five children. Lo and Bessie later divorced.

Lo later met a special woman, Sarah Taylor Turner. He asked her father for his blessing to marry his daughter. They were joined together in Holy Matrimony in 1980. This union brought together a blended family; William Harris, Pearlie, Long, Frank Long, Mattie Long, Mose Long, Nevada Long, Leslie Howard, Roderick Howard, Lee Howard, Dexter Turner, and Frances Turner. Lo loved his wife and didn’t mind letting her know. He affectionately called her Baby Doll. Lo was preceded in death by his mother, father, and step-father
