Martha Hood

February 24, 1949 ~ March 28, 2021 (age 72)

On March 28, 2021 another angel gained her wings. Martha L Hood passed away at Methodist University Hospital-Memphis.

She was born February 24, 1949 in Saulsbury to the late Columbus ‘Pete’ Hood and Nonie Mae Horton Hood.
Her graveside service was held on Saturday April 10, 2021 at 1:30 pm at Mt. Zion Cemetery-Saulsbury.  The professional service was directed by Dixie Funeral Home http://www.dixiefuneralhome.com.

She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at Bowden Hill CME Church. 
She was educated in the Hardeman County public schools and after high school she moved to Memphis for better opportunities. 
She became a member of one of the first women acapella spiritual singing groups, the Mellorettes. She later became a long lasting group member of The Memphis Stars of Faith Gospel Group where she performed faithfully until her health declined. 

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, James ‘Bam’ Hood; two sisters, Peggy Gillum (Osborne) and Johnnie Hood.
She leaves to mourn her passing, a loving son Orlando Hood; a loving honorary daughter-n-law Tanice Knox; two brothers Columbus ‘Chris’ Hood and John Hood; One sister Geneva Trabue; Eight grandchildren, Two great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
