Michael Keith Buchanan
February 16, 1952 ~ April 3, 2025
73 Years Old
Michael Keith Buchanan-now 73 years old, was born February 16,1952 to Bennie Lee and Shannon Mills Buchanan Sr. of Bolivar, TN. Michael was the oldest of their four children, Shannon Mills Jr. and Gregory (both preceded him in death) and his sister Sandra.
His memorial service was held on Saturday May 24, 2025 at 11:00 am at Greater Springfield MB Church with Pastor Shon Beasley in charge. Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.come was in charge of the professional service.
Michael passed away in his home on April 3, 2025 of natural causes. Michael attended Bolivar Elementary and graduated from Bolivar Central High School. He attended college at Tennessee State where he earned a degree in Agronomy (the science of soil management and crop production). He enjoyed working with soil and gardening and cooking the vegetables he harvested for dinner.
In 1974 Michael married Dorothy Spencer here at Greater Springfield M. B. Church. They moved to Rochester New York. To this union 2 children were born, LaChic Dornetta Michele Buchanan and LaRon Michael Doroth Buchanan. In Rochester, Michael was a faithful member of Friendship M. B. Church where he served on the Deacon Board. He worked at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County with soil, plants and surveying the land. A few years later he worked at Eastman Kodak as a maintenance Supervisor for many years. Michael returned to Bolivar, cared for his mom and rejoined Greater Springfield church where he set up Shannon and Bennie Buchanan Educational Scholarship with many recipients. It will be continued in his memory.
He worked at Southwest Developmental, Wilder Youth Developmental Center, Nat T. Winston and at the Whiteville Correctional Facility. He married Bonnie Dunlap and helped raise and care for her daughter, Jessica Ware for many years. Michael lived out his retirement days in his childhood home on South Jones St. God saw Michael was very weary and called him home to rest from his labor.
He leaves to celebrate his life: his children, LaChic & Laron and their mom, Dorothy; 2 grandchildren Lelani J'nia Marshall & LaRon Michael Doroth Buchanan, Jr.; his sisters, Sandra and Yolanda Bowden; his aunts, Ardella and Gwendolyn Gregory; uncle, Riley Gregory. He also leaves two sister-in-laws, along with their children, Greg's wife, Angela and their children Gregory, Earley, Vinecia, Isaiah and Jacob; Shannon Jr's wife, Corsella and their daughter Shaina and Shannon Jr. son, Shannon the 3rd; a host of friends and neighbors, Angela, Ebony, Marilyn, Louise, Fannie, Gerald and Timothy, and last but not least- his "like a brother" friend, Nun Hill. Michael is missed by all who knew & loved him.
What we leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments but what is woven into the lives of others. God wanted Michael now. He set him free.
In loving memory.
