Cecil Hood Shelton the daughter of the late Sam F. Hood and Mary Jane Hood was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia on October 25, 1936, she departed this life on November 27, 2021 at the age of 85.

At an early age, she joined Kentuck Baptist Church where she served faithfully relocating to Arlington, Virginia where she began her family life and a career with the federal government that spanned over 45 years.

She was united in marriage to the late Wallace E. Gunter (whom preceded her in death) and to this union three children were born.
Mrs. Cecil Shelton graduated from Gretna High School in Virginia. After graduation she went on to Virginia State College for Business Education. She took many college courses in Theater and Business Administration in Frankfurt Germany. She attended Northern Virginia Community College for Real Estate Brokerage. She acted in numerous plays in Frankfurt Germany, Heidelberg Germany, and Washington DC.

She was an entrepreneur with her Cee & Mar Boutique in Alexandria, Virginia and also worked for a group of lawyers. She also had her Nikken Business. She worked so hard so she could take care of her family and enjoy life. She loved shopping and traveling to Ocean City, Maryland with family and friends.
She was employed for the Government for over forty-five years. She worked for the Department of Defense in Washington, DC and The Pentagon in Arlington, VA. After her divorce from Wallace Gunter, she was united in marriage to Walter Shelton (whom preceded her in death) and traveled to Germany where she continued her work and theater. Once they return to Virginia, she continued her work at Fort Meyer, Virginia.

She leaves to mourn a devoted son; Daryl (Debbie) Gunter of Falls Church, VA: two devoted daughters; Marlita (Lawrence) Simpson of Nashville TN, and Yvette Gunter of Aries, North Carolina: a stepson; Jerome (Kendra) Gunter of Woodbridge, VA: sister in law; Artie M Hood of Keeling, VA: four granddaughters; Lakisha Tracy of Portland, TN, Marie Gunter of Woodbridge, VA, Amanda Baker of Charlotte, NC, and Josephine Gunter of Falls Church, VA: two grandsons; Elijah and Isaiah Gunter of Woodbridge, VA: one grandson in law; Roberto Grimaldo and a host of great and great great grand children nephews and niece and friends.
