Nicy Mae Herron was born June 16, 1927 to the late Henry and Maria Woods. Nicy Mae departed this life June 5, 2021 in her home in Bolivar, Tennessee.

Nicy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Antioch Baptist Church in Whiteville, Tennessee under the leadership of Rev. Charles Murphy.

Nicy lived a full and happy life!  She attended Hardeman County schools.  She enjoyed working in the yard, in her garden and helping others in need.  Nicy was one of the first ten African American employees to be hired at Harmon International.  She was employed there for twenty- seven years.  After she retired from this job she started her next job of LOVE, CARING for her love ones. 

On April 16, 1944 Nicy claimed Will (Sam) Herron as her husband and to this union six children were born.  Mary Edwards of Bolivar, TN, Evelyn McNeal (Robert) of St. Louis, MO, Henry Herron of Bolivar, TN, Katherine Moore of Perry, IA, Gladys Shead of Medon, TN, Forest Chapman (Authur) of Fredericksburg, VA.

Nicy is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Maria Woods; husband Will (Sam) Herron; three brothers, Arthur Lee Hall, King Scott, and Prince Sain; five sisters Idell Rhodes, Mary Louise Herron, Queen Blaylock, Armie Wood, Paige Woods

Nicy’s beautiful and kind sprit will be especially missed by her loving family and friends. She leaves sister Betty Marshall of Kankakee, IL; Sister-in-laws Florence Blaylock of Memphis, TN, Minnie Sain of Bolivar, Lucille Hall of Dayton, OH; Six children; Twenty grandchildren; Thirty-four great grandchildren; Eleven great great grandchildren and host nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
