Reverend Erby Price, Sr. Obituary

Reverend Erby D Price, Sr.

January 9, 1933 ~ January 19, 2024

91 Years Old

Erby D. Price, Sr. was born January 9, 1933, to the late Ervin Price and Cora D. Coburn Price.

His funeral service was held on Saturday January 27, 2024 at 11:00 am at Morning View MB Church with Reverend Melvin Bufford in charge.  Burial was in the church cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home www.dixiefuneralhome.com was in charge of the professional service.

At a youthful age, he confessed his profession of hope in Christ and united with Gray’s Creek M.B. Church in Eads, TN where he served as a faithful member, devoted choir member, and deacon. He later united with First Baptist Eads M.B. Church in Eads, TN. God blessed Pastor Price to be a very talented and gifted singer who devoted most of his life to singing with local groups, choirs, and as a soloist in both the church and the community. The Lord called him into the ministry, and he was ordained in January of 1975 at First Baptist Eads in Eads, TN. Although he accepted his calling and commission to the ministry of Jesus Christ, he did not give up singing. However, he did resign himself to the Bible Study, preaching the WORD, and the works of the Lord Jesus Christ in the furthering of the gospel. His motto or as he phrased it, “My motive’ is to gain Eternal life.” In January of 1976, Pastor Price was commissioned to his first pastoral assignment at Mays Hills M.B. Church in Hickory Valley, TN. During the same year in July, he received and accepted yet his second commission as pastor of Morning View M.B. Church in Eads, TN. Pastor Price served as pastor of both churches for seventeen years, from 1976-1993. Through the tedious years of constant service, he never ceased to thank God for Mays Hills M.B. Church and Morning View M.B. Church. He never took lightly the privilege God had given him to be the under shepherd of not one flock but two flocks. From 1976-2023 he served as pastor of Morning View M.B. Church. The entire Morning View Church family was always on his mind and in his heart. No pastor could love his flock any more than Pastor Price loved his. In 1953-55 he served in the 82nd Air Borne Division of the United States Army at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

On November 29, 1980, Pastor Price was united in Holy Matrimony to Hattie Pearl Bills. To this union one daughter was born, Kristy Lynn (Reginald) Stewart. Reginald and Kristy blessed him with two grandchildren, Joseph Stewart and David Stewart. He retired from Arlington Developmental Center in 1991 after 30 years of devoted service to the center. He truly loved the center, but most of all he loved the clients, the children. He saw the children not as having deformities or delayed functions but as God’s gift to the world on which we were to show even more love and compassion. “For as you have done it unto my least ones, you have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40).

A devoted wife of 43 years, Hattie Price; one son, Erby Price, Jr. (Carol) of Memphis, TN; one daughter, Kristy (Reginald) Stewart of Cordova, TN and Rose Price of Memphis, TN; six grandchildren of Memphis, TN and Cordova, TN; six great-grandchildren of Memphis, TN; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Juanita Bills Johnson of Trenton, TN; Earnestine Bills McNeal and Mary Bills, both of Bolivar, TN; Milton Bills, of Chicago, IL; two goddaughters, Freda Cunningham of Cordova, TN and Jazmyn Frazier of Olive Branch, MS and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and acquaintances remain to cherish his memory.
