Sunday afternoon on October 9, 2022, Shem Smith departed this life at Jackson General Hospital.


Shem Leon Smith was born April 5, 1954 to Zinnia Smith and Marie Jones Smith in Hardeman County.


Shem accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Hopewell MB Church. He remained a member of Hopewell and later became a deacon where he served until his health began to fail.


Shem was dedicated to many organizations such as Masonic, Eastern Star, Sergeant in the Army National Guard, firefighter, and bus driver, etc. Shem was also a member of the community and Hopewell male chorus.


Along with his parents, Shem was preceded in death by: one brother, Cleo Smith and one sister, Athea Cheairs.


Shem leaves to cherish his memories: a loving wife of forty four years, Lizzie Smith: five children: Deitrick (Fontella) Mason, Corday Murphy, Marco Smith, Rodney (Fredrick) Braddic, and Regina (Oluwasegun) Badejoko: three brother, Zinnia Albert Smith, Timothy Smith, and Thomas Levi (Marian) Smith all of Grand Junction, TN: ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two special friends, Perry Talley and David C. Hicks and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him very much.
